Monaco is a hit!

Quite an evening for AS Monaco who offered a real demonstration to their public Tuesday evening against Red Star Belgrade (5-1), as part of the third day of the Champions League league phase. If Adi Hütter’s men conceded a goal from the penalty spot following Thilo Kehrer’s very uninspired intervention on an opponent, the rest of their performance was absolutely perfect. This success allows the Monegasques to temporarily occupy the top of the ranking.

Everything started well for the locals as they opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play through Takumi Minamino. And if Cherif Ndiaye reset the counters to zero (or rather to 1-1, 27th), Breel Embolo gave the advantage back to ASM just before the break (2-1, 45th+4). A logical advance but still minimal for the Rock players who will work to increase it throughout the second act.

Minamino scores a double

Wilfried Singo will launch the charge with an incredible cannon shot (3-1, 54th). Breel Embolo will miss the double when his goal is refused for a handball (56th). An opportunity that Minamino will not miss (4-1, 70th). And in the final moments of the game, it is Maghnes Akliouche, twirling during the match, who will find his way to the lines in his turn (5-1, 90th+6).

This success therefore places Monaco in the lead for a few hours while awaiting the results of the other matches. Two victories and a draw for the Ligue 1 club which has so far had a good start to the European campaign. As for Belgrade, it’s quite the opposite with this third defeat in as many matches. With eleven goals conceded and only two scored, they are at the opposite extreme of the table and last.
