Mercato: Luis Campos’ very turbulent summer in Vigo

Celta de Vigo was hot. The Galicians flirted with the red zone for many weeks at the end of the season, and ultimately finished only three points above relegated first-placed Valladolid. A difficult situation to assume for this club which seems a priori programmed to finish in the first part of the table, and which has several quality players in its workforce, like the inexhaustible Iago Aspas or the nugget Gabri Veiga. And Luis Campos, sports adviser to the Galician presidency, took a very high price because of his failures in the transfer window, to the point that he was even volleyed by Aspas. “We lack quality. I said it in August, I said it in January, and nothing was done”launched the star of Celta.

“In a club run by people who know football, the relationship with Campos would be immediately severed for having recommended the arrival of a striker like Jørgen Strand Larsen (recruited last summer, editor’s note) for 12.4 million euros”went there for its part the Spanish sports newspaper AS. Suffice to say that, as on the side of Paris elsewhere, the Portuguese scout has no room for error. And as in Paris, again, the Lusitanian started his summer rather well. First of all, he managed to convince Rafa Benitez to sign. A prestigious coach as the first stone of the project.

Beautiful people are going to disembark

This summer, Celta have already struck some nice shots. In addition to having permanently retained Carles Pérez, the Galicians have recovered Manu Sanchez, a young left-back who replaces Javi Galan, who has gone the opposite way and left for Atlético de Madrid. Jonathan Bamba arrived free of any contract, while the former LOSC winger was coveted by several slightly more upscale and prestigious teams. An arrival that pleased Galicia. And it’s not over, since Celta should enlist Carlos Dotor, midfielder and captain of Real Madrid Castilla who was also coveted by other great La Liga teams.

Sergio Arribas, who needs no introduction, is also followed very closely by the Galicians, who do not hesitate to inquire with the Merengues. Julen Jon Guerrero, another big hope for Real Madrid and La Roja’s lower selections, could also land at Balaidos soon. There is a desire to build a solid project for the future, and finally put Celta at the level it should be, namely close to European positions in La Liga. See you in a year to see if, this time, Luis Campos will have succeeded in his transfer window…
