The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in favor of UEFA in the conflict between the Catalan club and the European institution. This considered that the famous economic levers used by the Blaugrana in the summer of 2023 did not comply with financial fair play. The CAS therefore imposed a fine of 500,000 euros on the current leader of the Spanish championship.

The court proceedings controlled the sale of certain audiovisual rights linked to LaLiga, which UEFA considered illegal, violating its rules on financial fair play. Barça appealed an initial decision, but the Appeals Chamber of the UEFA Financial Control Body upheld its conviction.
