Maxime Gonalons, former midfielder for OL and the French team, announces his retirement at the age of 35 after a career of more than 300 matches in the Lyon jersey and stints at AS Roma and Clermont.

At 35, Maxime Gonalons ends his professional career. The former Olympique Lyonnais, AS Roma and Clermont midfielder announced his retirement on Tuesday on his Instagram account. After playing more than 300 matches with OL and representing France eight times between 2011 and 2015, Gonalons expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches and supporters.

Gonalons, a career marked by OL

Trained in Lyon, Gonalons marked the club’s history by participating in the semi-final of the 2010 Champions League. After eight years defending the colors of OL, where he won the Coupe de France and the Champions Trophy in 2012, he continued his career in Italy and Spain before returning to France, in Clermont.
