Pep Guardiola, former coach of Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona, once again praised his ex-player during his appearance on the Italian show Che Tempo Che Fa. During this interview, Guardiola did not hide his admiration for the 2022 world champion, affirming that he is, in his eyes, the greatest player in history, even surpassing legends like Pelé and Maradona.
A vibrant tribute to Messi
The Manchester City boss acknowledged the impact of Pele and Maradona, but believes Messi is unique because of his consistency and long-term performances. “Maybe I disrespect Pelé and Diego Maradona, but he is the best player of all time. What Messi did was beautiful. Every game it was two goals and three assists, and that for 15 years,” Guardiola explained.
The Spanish technician also spoke about his memories of the time when he coached Messi. “In training and in matches, what he did every three days was incredible. We were lucky enough to see this, it only happens once in a lifetime,”
he confided with nostalgia.
