Former teammate of the “Pulga” at FC Barcelona and in the Argentine selection, the ex-defensive midfielder, does not hesitate to affirm that the 2022 world champion was simply unstoppable. “If Messi was a defender, he might be one of the best defenders in the world. It was impossible to dribble past him,” confided the coach of the Argentina under-20 team for the YouTube channel “Shoot for Love”.

Mascherano notably illustrated his remarks by evoking the training sessions he shared with the Inter Miami star, at the time when they played together under the Blaugrana colors. “At Barcelona we sometimes played one-on-one, and it was impossible to pass him”he said.
“We had no chance against him. Sometimes attackers know how to defend. Messi defended very well. He was very fast and if you tried to dribble past him it was impossible.”he assured.
