This Monday, Didier Deschamps broke the silence to discuss the Kylian Mbappé controversy. The Blues coach took advantage of this update on the FFF media to explain how he was going to choose his captain in the absence of the Madrilenian and his former vice-captain, Antoine Griezmann. “It’s in my head, obviously, but as I do every time, the important thing is to be able to discuss it with the players who may be concerned. Obviously, with the absence of Kylian, captain, and Antoine who was vice-captain, at these two gatherings, there will inevitably be others. Afterwards, it is a momentary responsibility between players who can be. But there are also many players who can be leaders without necessarily having the captain’s armband. The lack of experience or experience is not going in the right direction…”

He continues: “There is the number of selections and seniority, which is not necessarily a determining criterion for me. It’s more the ability that some people have to have responsibilities in the moment, without it changing their behavior or their performance. That’s what it’s all about, hence the importance for me of knowing the players well on a human level, their character, their sensitivity in relation to the group that is there at this gathering.” According to RMC Sport, it is Mike Maignan who should inherit the armband and responsibilities during the month of October.
