AC Milan: another messy evening…

AC Milan’s victory against Lecce (3-0) on September 27, the third consecutive success in the league, allowed Paulo Fonseca to get his head above water. Heavily criticized since his arrival in Lombardy, the Portuguese technician seemed to be on the right track. And then patatras. Logically beaten by Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League (0-1), Milan followed up with a defeat last night against Fiorentina (1-2).

A setback conceded at the end of a crazy match (two missed penalties on the Milan side, one on the Florentine side) and which places the Rossoneri in sixth place in the standings, five points behind the Neapolitan leader. This morning, the scenario of the meeting is also causing discussion. Firstly because Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez, the two leaders of Fonseca’s team, failed once again.

Not good penalty takers

The Portuguese was replaced a quarter of an hour from time without having been brilliant, while the Frenchman did worse. He was involved in the penalty caused by Dodô (missed by Kean), missed the one just before the break, before being sent off at the very end of the match. He who had already clashed with his coach, the youngest of the Hernandez brothers once again missed the opportunity to distinguish himself with the captain’s armband. But that’s not all.

At the end of the match, Paulo Fonseca did not hide his annoyance. Because according to him, it was neither Theo Hernandez nor Tammy Abraham who should have taken the two (missed) penalties. “Penalties? I don’t want to say anything. I love football and I don’t want to contribute to this circus. Football isn’t like that, I don’t want to talk about it.”he told the broadcaster, before continuing in a press conference. “I’m annoyed. Our penalty taker is Pulisic, I don’t know why the players changed their minds. I spoke to him and told him this should not happen again.”. Accused of not maintaining his locker room just a few weeks after his arrival on the Rossonero bench and already announced in the hot seat, Fonseca is visibly struggling to hold his troops together.
