Passed in particular by Manchester United, Tottenham, Sunderland, Cardiff and even Crystal Palace, Fraizer Campbell has made revelations about his addiction to snus, a nicotine-based product consumed by certain professional footballers. Now aged 39, the former England striker explained that he discovered this substance during his time at Crystal Palace, between 2014 and 2017, through a teammate. Initially used to relax after meetings, snus gradually became a habit that was difficult to control. “I felt relaxed, and it mostly soothed me. It was after a match, too, and after a match, you know, it’s the kind of thing after which it’s quite difficult to relax. It started right after the matches, then the practices, but that’s how it starts, and then you get addicted and you consume more and more.” he said.
An addiction that ended up having consequences on his daily life. Campbell explained in particular that he regularly felt significant fatigue in the late afternoon, to the point of feeling constantly exhausted. “I was clearly addicted”he admitted, specifying that his consumption had increased further after his retirement from sports. The former striker also revealed that he sometimes takes it before training, but never on match days. “I never took it on a match day. Because it relaxed me too much, and I’m a pretty calm person by nature. If I were even more relaxed, I would have a hard time starting to run. It got worse after I stopped playing football, but I didn’t really see the negative side of it when I was playing.”he explained.
