If the setbacks of Manchester City make the detractors of Paris Saint-Germain salivate, the capital club should not suffer the same fate. Since its acquisition by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, PSG has also relied on several partners linked to Qatar, including Qatar Airways, Ooredoo, Visit Qatar and QNB. But contrary to what the Premier League criticizes the Skyblues, the Parisian contracts have already been scrutinized by UEFA’s financial control bodies, which have regularly revised their valuation downwards. A control which radically distinguishes the two files, as rightly recalled RMC Sport.
As of 2014, the image contract with the Qatar Tourism Authority was increased from 200 to 100 million euros after the intervention of UEFA. In 2018, several other agreements were also devalued. PSG has therefore already suffered the economic consequences of these adjustments, under the supervision of the Club Financial Control Authority. Above all, income from Qatari companies no longer represents the entirety of the Parisian economic model, which has largely developed its other sources of income. Under these conditions, an accusation of fraud based on artificially inflated contracts, like that targeting Manchester City, seems difficult to transpose to the Ile-de-France club.
