Igor Paixao plans to leave OM shortly. The Brazilian striker announced it himself on the sidelines of the championship match played in Troyes this Sunday.

Bruno Genesio did everything to keep Igor Paixao this summer. While an agreement in principle had been reached with Sunderland for a transfer worth 35 million euros – the amount invested a year earlier by OM to allocate his services – the Brazilian was retained at all costs, with the final blessing of club owner Frank McCourt.

“ The situation at the club made me stay. I thought about the good of the club. Even if they sold me, they couldn’t have replaced me, a part that is important to themsays the Auriverde striker in an interview with Canal Football Club.
It’s the right choice, it’s clear, I want to continue playing and giving my best. This season, everything comes together for me to have an important role and help my team put OM back where they belong, at the top. »

However, the start of the season is very delicate for the person concerned, who has not yet scored a single goal in six official matches. But Igor Paixao assures him: “ It’s a privilege and a responsibility to wear a jersey with so much history. I have an additional responsibility. I’m happy, Marseille is a great club. I love the way my family and I are treated here. »

A bloodbath in Troyes

A satisfaction which will clearly not last since the former star of Feyenoord Rotterdam clearly announces a short-term departure from the Marseille city. “ In January, the teams are already formed, it’s difficult. There’s a better chance I’ll leave next summer », he whispers without any restraint.

Sunday evening in Troyes, Igor Paixao did not hide his dissatisfaction while Bruno Genesio recalled him to the bench, after 87 unsuccessful minutes. “ For me, it’s nothing. It can happenimmediately evacuated the OM coach at a press conference. I think he was frustrated, maybe frustrated to go out, maybe frustrated with his match. But there you go, I can understand it. He knows that he can count on me, he knows that he has the trust of the group, he knows that we have done a lot of things to keep him here. (…) It’s nothing serious. »
