Witness behind Manchester City investigation will no longer be protected

Officially found guilty of serious financial breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play, Manchester City is now waiting to know the sanction that will be imposed on them. In the meantime, this earthquake is also an opportunity for the media to show concern about Rui Pinto’s situation. The Portuguese computer hacker, behind the revelation of the “Football Leaks” (leak of documents on football business which led to the Premier League’s investigation into the affairs of Manchester City), immediately reacted on his X account to the Premier League’s press release.

“It’s official. The statement released by the Premier League finally confirms, unequivocally, the veracity of everything revealed through Football Leaks. The Independent Commission is also particularly harsh in the way it characterizes the actions taken by Manchester City’s leaders, who, without a shadow of a doubt, acted with impunity, defying everyone and everything. From the very beginning, they have shown a complete lack of respect for the rules, for the bodies responsible for supervising and regulating the game, for the integrity of the competition, for other clubs and, above all, for the supporters. Years and years of cheating, lying and manipulation will finally have consequences. » Acquitted by Portuguese justice last April, Rui Pinto will however have to be extra vigilant. Today, The Guardian tells us that he will lose his status as a witness protected by the Portuguese authorities. The measure would be effective from October 10. Information which is not without consequences for Pinto. Physically attacked in Lisbon last April, Pinto has lived in an undisclosed location since August 2020. Authorities reportedly advised him to avoid social media and remain vigilant during family interactions.
