Strong man of the 2025/2026 season for Paris Saint-Germain, Khvicha Kvaratshkelia (25 years old) is marking time. Exceptional, especially in the Champions League (10 goals and 7 goals in 16 matches), the Georgian winger took the Ile-de-France residents to their second European title by multiplying XXL performances against Chelsea, Liverpool and even Bayern Munich. Among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or, the native of Tbilisi is nevertheless experiencing a delay in starting for this new exercise. However, paradoxically, it was he who launched the Paris Saint-Germain season by scoring the first goal against Aston Villa (2-1) during the UEFA Super Cup. Since then, however, it has been more complicated.

Little in sight against Lens during the 1-0 defeat during the Champions Trophy, he was replaced at the break against Rennes (2-2) for the resumption of Ligue 1. Behind, he was a substitute against Lille (2-2) and played a series of complicated matches in the league where he never played more than 68 minutes. Disappointing performances for someone who has only delivered one goal and zero goals in the last six matches. Threatened by Ferran Torres’ great start to the season at Paris Saint-Germain which contrasts with his ineffectiveness, Khvicha Kvaratshkelia thought he could change his mind with the international break.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia disappointed again with Georgia

Back in the jersey of the Georgian selection in the Nations League, he missed his first outing. This Friday, at home against Northern Ireland, his team lost 1-0 at the end of the match on a pawn from Shea Charles. Khvicha Kvaratshkelia had also missed a penalty earlier in the match (65th) which could have offered a different scenario. The main person concerned did not try to clear his customs after the match: “we take full responsibility for our defeat today. We couldn’t develop the game we wanted.»

“We had many chances, but we were unable to capitalize on them. Personally, I failed to convert the penalty, and I apologize to the Georgian fans. It’s football, but I will do everything to correct my mistake in the next match“, he continued. A defeat which cost the head of its coach Willy Sagnol and puts Georgia in a bad position in the Nations League before challenging Ukraine this Monday. After impressing everyone, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is in a more complicated phase. It is now up to him to get up and put an end to a negative dynamic that continues to grow.
