Journalists still have until September 28 to vote for the Ballon d’Or. And at the same time, the candidates for this Holy Grail of individual distinctions launched their campaign. With two players that we see everywhere in the media: Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal. If players like Ousmane Dembélé or Rodri are rather discreet, the Bondynois and the FC Barcelona star do not hesitate to increase their speeches via interviews, not hiding their desire to win this 2026 Ballon d’Or, and putting forward numerous arguments in their favor.
To the point where many fans are a little fed up. This is especially the case with Mbappé, since the numerous media outings of the French international greatly annoy the Madrilenians, who consider that their number 10 mainly thinks of himself before thinking of the team, and that his performances in the big matches since his arrival have not been up to par. This Thursday, Lamine Yamal spoke again, in an interview given to TVESpanish public television. And he spoke about the criticism he and the Frenchman receive for their numerous interviews demanding the Ballon d’Or.
Lamine Yamal defends Mbappé
“If Mbappé and I didn’t talk, people would wonder why we don’t talk. We are asked to be sincere, but when we are, we are criticized. I clearly said what I thought, and I do not regret having done so”first indicated the Spanish international, who therefore believes that the criticism falling on him and on Kylian Mbappé is unfounded. Rather than “taking down” his opponent or at least distancing himself from him, Lamine Yamal therefore wanted to defend him.
The little prodigy from La Masia also obviously took the opportunity to add a layer to his candidacy. “Today, there are few players who play like me, who make people benefit, I see that. That’s my goal, and that’s why Neymar was my idol. I think the Ballon d’Or must also take that into account. The best player, but also the one who gives you the most pleasure when you see him play. This is what sets me apart (from others, Editor’s note)”affirmed the Barça player. See you in a little over a month for the big verdict.
