Remaining at OM after being close to leaving this summer, Igor Paixao looked back on this turbulent period and his future.

The summer transfer window for Olympique de Marseille was marked by a significant wave of departures. Forced to replenish their coffers, the Olympians let several major players with high market value slip away. Mason Greenwood, Leonardo Balerdi, Geronimo Rulli, Facundo Medina and Quinten Timber have left the Marseille city.

A mixed start to the season

Long announced as leaving because of the large sums he could have brought in, Igor Paixao ultimately stayed at OM as he wished. But despite his good summer preparation, the Brazilian is, like his team, below the expectations placed on him at the start of the season.

During an interview given to Brazilian media Bandthe 26-year-old winger looked back on this turbulent period near the Old Port. “This transfer window was a bit intense, the club put everyone up for sale. I didn’t really want to leave, I don’t want to leave. I also chose to stay to help my team, we cannot recruit, there would have been no player to replace me”he confided.

Paixao opens the door to England

But the former Feyenoord player also spoke of other destinations he dreams of for the rest of his career, including the Premier League, which he was very close to this summer. “It’s also a dream to play in the Premier League, we are going to have a good season so that next time other clubs can come and we can see them take a bigger step. Of course it must be good for me and for the club. I can speak frankly. There are contacts with my agents with Flamengo and Palmeiras. No concrete proposals have arrived, so it’s more speculation. I think at the right time it will happen. I dream of playing for Flamengo. God willing, one day I will wear the Flamengo jersey and also realize my childhood dream and that of my family, which is Flamengo”he added.
