French defensive midfielder Skelly Alvero (24) is in trouble. Recruited by Olympique Lyonnais in July 2023 for €4 million, the former Sochalian was sent to Werder Bremen on loan six months later, before being permanently transferred there in July 2024 for €4.75 million. Since then, the German adventure has turned into a fiasco. Alvero only played 20 matches with the German team and is no longer part of the club’s plans, just like Polish striker Dawid Kownacki (29 years old). This Wednesday, Bild recalls that the two players have been kept away from first team matches since the start of the season and that the Alvero case is of great concern.
“The Frenchman (under contract until 2028) has become a scandalously expensive financial pit”writes the local daily, to highlight the lack of use of a player enrolled for nearly €5 million and paid €1 million per season. After a four-month loan to Amiens (February-June 2026) Alvero trains with the group, but he plays with the reserves, “because he’s just not good enough for the first team”says the newspaper. Barred from the number 6 position by Youri Regeer (23 years old), Ludovit Reis (26 years old) and Senne Lynen (27 years old), will Alvero find a solution? The problem is that the courtiers don’t rush to the gate.
