After Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, David Alaba should therefore wear the Udinese jersey. According to information from Fabrizio Romanothe Austrian defender and the Friuli club reached a verbal agreement. The documents necessary for the operation must still be finalized before possible formalization. Without a club since the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid in June, Alaba can freely join a new team. A situation which Udinese decided to take advantage of to attempt a move as prestigious as it was unexpected on the market.
The choice of Udine was all the more difficult to anticipate as Alaba had several possibilities. His father and advisor, George Alaba, recently confirmed having received numerous requests, both in Europe and in the United States. Inter Miami was notably cited among the suitors, as was Union Berlin, while a return to Austria Vienna, where he was trained, was also considered. This last possibility, however, seemed premature. Those around him assured that Alaba wanted to continue his career and still believed he had things to accomplish in European football.
Udinese offers itself an extraordinary CV
For Udinese, attracting a player of this size would be a particularly rare operation. Alaba would arrive in Friuli with four Champions Leagues to his name, two won with Bayern Munich and two with Real Madrid. He also has more than a hundred caps with Austria, of which he has become one of the most emblematic players. His versatility has allowed him to play as a central defender, left back or midfielder during his career. An experience at a very high level which necessarily contrasts with the recruitment habits of a club more accustomed to banking on profiles to be developed before promoting them.
The unknown now mainly concerns his physical state and his ability to regain continuity. His last years in Madrid were greatly disrupted by injuries, which gradually reduced his playing time. Arriving in Spain in 2021, the Austrian still played 131 matches and won eleven trophies before leaving free five years later. His last club appearance dates back to May, before he then returned to the Austrian selection during the World Cup. Udinese is therefore preparing to recover for free a player with a considerable track record, but also a 34-year-old defender who is coming out of several physically complicated seasons.
