Starting for the first time with Real Madrid against Rayo Vallecano this Saturday, Yan Diomandé did not completely convince for his first appearance in the starting lineup. A performance that could still be improved which sparked criticism from Jérôme Rothen. The former French player believes in particular that there is “a world of difference” between the Ivorian and his Madrid teammates, pointing out his technical shortcomings. “There is a world of difference between Yan Diomandé and all the other players. In terms of technical accuracy, there are far too many gaps. I’m not saying it’s the flop of the summer, but it’s going to have to progress very quickly.”he blurted.
An analysis that José Mourinho does not completely share. The Portuguese technician prefers to retain the potential of his young recruit, while recognizing that important work remains to be accomplished on the tactical level. “Yan Diomandé? He is progressing, he has a lot to learn tactically, but he has incredible talent, very strong, he offers us a lot of options. He can play in the Vini position, on the right too”explained the Real Madrid coach, while Diomandé has only just had his first start since his arrival in the Spanish capital.
