Lucas Bergvall finally chose to continue his adventure at Tottenham. Spurs formalized this Friday the extension of their 20-year-old Swedish midfielder, without specifying the duration of his new contract, while his previous lease already ran until June 2031. A turnaround after a particularly uncertain summer: in June, Bergvall had expressed his desire to leave in the face of questions regarding his playing time. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle had notably tried to recruit him, but Tottenham had rejected their offers. Its representatives had also sounded out FC Barcelona, which did not wish to relaunch a file already studied in depth in 2024.

Discussions with management and Roberto De Zerbi finally convinced Bergvall to stay. “I think we’re building something great here. It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract “, explained the Swedish international. Tottenham thus secures a young player whom it never wanted to let go despite his desire to leave. A choice which closes, at least for the moment, the door to his suitors and confirms that Bergvall retains an important place in the Spurs project.
