France could try to bring the World Cup back to its territory in 2038, a hundred years after hosting the 1938 edition. Guest of After FootballPhilippe Diallo confirmed that the French Football Federation was studying this possibility. “ It’s a subject for reflection », recognized the president of the FFF. With the increase of the World Cup to 48 selections, however, he believes that a French candidacy could no longer be considered alone: “ At 48, we can no longer organize it alone. Look at the United States… » The possibility of a joint organization with Germany is notably mentioned. “ This is a partner that would make sense », replied Diallo.
No application has therefore yet been made, but the FFF is starting to plan ahead for a still distant deadline. After the 2026 edition organized in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the 2030 World Cup will take place mainly in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with also meetings in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, before a 2034 edition allocated to Saudi Arabia. France could thus position itself for 2038 and host a third World Cup after those of 1938 and 1998, this time as part of a joint candidacy with one or more European countries.
