The revolt continues against Gianni Infantino. The president of Fifa has found himself at the heart of controversy since this summer and the various controversies which marked the 2026 World Cup in North America. The situation worsened further after the announcement of a plan to privatize the World Cup, which has since been abandoned.
In the process, several countries, through their confederations, displayed their dissatisfaction with the Italian-Swiss leader. The protest now goes further since several federations have decided not to renew their confidence in Gianni Infantino, candidate for his own succession to the presidency of the world body.
This Thursday, France in turn confirmed its position. The French Football Federation is opposed to the re-election of Gianni Infantino during the FIFA elective congress, scheduled for March 18 in Rabat, Morocco. France changes position
For several months, Philippe Diallo has not hidden, in private, his desire to distance himself from Infantino. The president of the FFF, however, was waiting to bring together his executive committee in order to reach a collective decision. France thus joins around ten European countries, including England and Italy, which have already announced their opposition to the Italian-Swiss leader.
Member of the UEFA executive committee, Philippe Diallo therefore remains aligned with the position of the European body and its president Aleksander Ceferin, who also wants to see Infantino leave the presidency of Fifa. A turnaround all the more notable since the FFF had signed, before the episode of Folarin Balogun’s red card, a letter of support for Infantino with many other federations, with a view to his re-election in Rabat. France has therefore officially changed sides.
