Among the 30 nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or, Wendie Renard was not entitled to congratulations from the French team, unlike the other French players named alongside her. Enough to make people react.

It’s an oversight (or not) which sparks controversy… For the sixth time in her career, Wendie Renard is one of the 30 nominated for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the list of which was revealed this Wednesday by France Football. The emblematic OL defender was selected alongside her compatriots Melvin Malard and Selma Bacha.

The latter two were warmly congratulated for their nomination by the X account of the French women’s team, which did not do the same for Wendie Renard. A choice that does not go down well with the 36-year-old player, legend of the Bleues (168 caps, 39 goals), where she has not been called up by coach Laurent Bonadei since May 2025.

Obviously affected by this oversight, the Martinican was publicly supported by her ex-teammate Eugénie Le Sommer.
“Because some people forgot to congratulate you… Bravo Wendie Renard”, wrote in an Instagram story the top scorer in the history of the France team.

“A shame! », denounces Sydney Govou

“Thank you Eugé (Le Sommer),who answered the main interested party. Obviously, wearing the French team jersey for all these years is no longer enough to be considered French when the time comes for congratulations. But hey… Proud of this 6e nomination for the Ballon d’Or. »

Former OL player, Sydney Govou also stepped up to support her. “Football has a selective memory”first released the Canal+ consultant on X, before denouncing “a shame!” » and to congratulate the Lyonnaise: “well done little sister”. Welcome support for Wendie Renard.
