The duel for the 2026 Ballon d’Or is already starting to heat up. While Kylian Mbappé has clearly positioned himself in the race for the trophy, Lamine Yamal responded with an outing that risks getting people talking.

Who to succeed Ousmane Dembélé? This Tuesday, September 8, France Football will unveil the list of 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. If no big favorite seems to stand out, several contenders can still dream of the trophy, which will be awarded on October 26 in London. Among them, Kylian Mbappé.

Present at a press conference on the eve of the clash between Real Madrid and Inter Milan in the Champions League, the French striker did not hesitate to clearly position himself in the race for the Ballon d’Or. An outing which quickly provoked a reaction from Lamine Yamal, also a potential candidate for the individual reward.

After discussing the meeting against Feyenoord in C1, the young Barcelona player was asked about his chances of winning the trophy. “It’s not up to me, it’s up to you.” My work with Barça and the national team has been incredible. I have options, I had a great year. But we will see »he said.

Lamine Yamal responds to Mbappé

Relaunched on Kylian Mbappé, who embarked on a real campaign for the Ballon d’Or, Lamine Yamal displayed a certain serenity. “I don’t think I need to campaign. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and I can’t ask for anything more. It’s your job, I’m not going to beg for anything”he added.

The Barça player was then questioned about the choice of Ousmane Dembélé, title holder, not to have placed him in his top 3 for the Ballon d’Or. A decision which obviously does not seem to have disturbed him: “He’s Kylian’s friend. No ? (laughs)… I don’t care. I am very happy with my year. I get along well with him. Everyone saw my year, even if they didn’t see it… When I faced both, I won. I’m happy with my year. » The duel is therefore launched.
