It was a Saturday of successive reversals that Serie A experienced. After Torino overthrew Fiorentina (1-2) and Inter came from behind against Napoli (3-2), it was AS Roma who were able to reverse a complicated situation to finally win on their home field against Atalanta Bergamo (2-1, 3rd day).
Passed by Inter in the standings just after the Nerazzurri’s victory against Naples, the Romans knew what they had to do to regain control. But the scenario did not initially go the way of the locals. No goal in the first half. And yet, La Louve ate their opponent with 63% ball possession and eighteen shots (including only four on target), against an attempt from Bergamo.
But there was a blow after returning from the locker room since it was Atalanta who found the net through Ederson (0-1, 47th). Feeling the need to react, Gian Piero Gasperini made the decision to change his players. Four in the space of ten minutes. But nothing happened.
AS Roma, four minutes of madness
Atalanta seemed to be heading towards a third victory in a row in as many championship matches, but everything finally turned against them at the very end of the match.
In just four minutes, AS Roma regained control. A goal from Mario Hermoso (1-1, 89th) and another from Matias Soule in stoppage time (2-1, 90th + 3). Match folded. The crowd at the Olympic stadium erupted in joy and Roma overtook Inter to regain the lead in the provisional standings, thanks to a better goal difference.
