After his frustrating performance against Betis, Kylian Mbappé finds himself at the center of criticism in Spain.

Real Madrid failed. For the third day of La Liga, the Madrid club struggled against Real Betis for a long time before finally giving in in the 81st minute. The Merengue, however, thought they would come back to the score a few minutes later, but their equalizer was refused. Kylian Mbappé then had the opportunity to come back from the penalty spot, without managing to deceive Vallés.

The day after this first defeat of the season, the Spanish press did not spare the French striker. Tomás Roncero, journalist at A.S.notably pointed out his lack of success in his editorial, entitled “Dark Night”.
“Kylian was unlucky and didn’t even manage to score a penalty”he writes.

Same observation on the side of Marca. In his editorial, José Vicente Hernáez believes that Real Madrid could have come away with another result if Mbappé had made more of his chances. “Mbappé was decisive but in the bad sense of the word”estimates the Madrid journalist.

Mourinho defends Mbappé

The criticism is not limited to the penalty saved by Vallés. The Madrid press also criticizes the former Parisian for his lack of precision in the different situations he obtained during the meeting. Before the break, Mbappé notably benefited from a double opportunity, but his two attempts were blocked. In the 67th minute, he found himself in a favorable position again, before missing his one-on-one and seeing his shot miss the goal.

Despite these missed opportunities, José Mourinho did not want to make Mbappé responsible for this first defeat. After the match, the coach defended his group and believed that Real Madrid had produced enough play to obtain a better result. Asked about the missed penalty, the Portuguese technician also adopted a collective speech: “When one of us takes the penalty, we all go together. »
