Raul Asencio is having a difficult few months at Real Madrid. On the pitch, the young central defender is no longer popular. Once considered the revelation of the 2024/2025 season at Casa Blanca, the 23-year-old player is no longer an indisputable starter. Off the field, he was involved (then acquitted) in a case of sharing intimate videos with a minor and recently, he was tested with a blood alcohol level four times higher than the maximum allowed in Spain. Which earned him 8 months of license withdrawal and a fine of €14,000. Enough to attract the wrath of his coach José Mourinho. This evening, the Merengue decided to break the silence in a press release published on his Instagram account.

“Today, after a long period of silence and after having respected a judicial procedure in which I have always had confidence, I can say that I have been ACQUITTED. And I think the time has come to say a few words. Over the past few months, I have gone through a difficult period and, at times, I have noticed that information and opinions concerning me were published even before the court had ruled. I understand and respect the work of the media when it comes to informing and expressing opinions, but I also think it is important to remember that behind every news story there is a person and a family who suffer the consequences of everything that is published. I always had faith that justice would eventually put things back where they were. Today, there is a court decision that speaks for itself, and I welcome it calmly, with the satisfaction of being able to turn the page on a period that was very important for me. I don’t want to hold back the media noise or the difficult times. I prefer to remember the support of the people who were by my side and who trusted me throughout this time. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart my family, my friends, my agent, my lawyers and all the people who stood by me and gave me strength when I needed it most. I would also like to thank Real Madrid and everyone at the club who showed their trust in me and allowed me to continue working, progressing and enjoying what I love above all: playing football. Throughout this ordeal, I tried to stay back, work and move forward. Today, I can do it with the serenity of knowing that I have always believed in the truth. To those who have spoken about me in recent months, I simply ask that, now that justice has ruled, this part of the story can also be told with the same attention. I don’t want to get into controversy or look back. I wish to turn this page with respect, with my head held high and with a great desire to move forward. I would also like to mention an incident linked to a blood alcohol test. I deeply regret what happened and I fully accept my responsibilities. This experience served as a lesson to me and I am convinced that it will not happen again. Now I want to move forward, keep working, keep progressing and focus on what I love most: playing football. It’s my turn to speak. And I completely agree with my coach: not only on the field, but also off it. Hala Madrid. Let no one have the slightest doubt”.
