Time is running out at Olympique de Marseille. While the end of the transfer window is fast approaching, OM must still complete several sales in order to rebalance its finances and have greater room for maneuver for the rest of its recruitment. A situation which places several important players from Bruno Génésio’s squad on the transfer market. Igor Paixão, for example, is announced to be close to Sunderland, even if his possible departure is debated internally.
But the Brazilian is far from being the only candidate for departure. As announced by us last April, Leonardo Balerdi is also one of the players that OM could part with in the event of a satisfactory offer. Arriving in the Marseille city in July 2020, the Argentinian international defender (11 caps) still has good popularity abroad. Balerdi wants to join AS Roma
According to our information, AS Roma has seriously accelerated in recent hours on the Leonardo Balerdi file. The Louve club appreciates the profile of the former Borussia Dortmund central defender and has decided to move up a gear a few days before the market closes. An agreement has even already been reached between the Roman club and Balerdi. Negotiations have begun with OM to study the feasibility of a transfer in the form of a loan with a compulsory purchase option.
An avenue that could do business for OM, still looking for liquidity in this final stretch of the transfer window. While the Igor Paixão file could already allow the Phocaeans to make a significant sale, the departure of Balerdi would give a nice breath of fresh air to Marseille’s finances. It now remains to be seen whether the discussions with AS Roma will quickly lead to an agreement, while the race against the clock has started within the Olympian club.
