Manchester United tried to recruit Rayan Aït-Nouri from Manchester City in the final hours of the transfer window reports Manchester Evening News. The 25-year-old Algerian left-back had been offered to the Red Devils by his agent a few days earlier and Michael Carrick’s club finally contacted its rival to find out the conditions of a transfer. But the two clubs failed to agree on the formula for the operation. Manchester United only wanted a permanent transfer, while City favored a loan with an obligation to buy. In the absence of an agreement, Aït-Nouri will therefore remain at the Etihad Stadium this season.
Arriving from Wolverhampton last summer for 36 million pounds, Aït-Nouri played 31 games with Manchester City but did not manage to establish himself permanently as a starter, in particular due to injuries and his participation in the African Cup of Nations. Nico O’Reilly has established himself on the left, while Josko Gvardiol has also been used in this position at the start of the season. Manchester United were looking for a solution to compete with Luke Shaw after the failure of the Lewis Hall track. The Red Devils also inquired about Alejandro Balde, but Barça wanted a permanent transfer while United only offered a loan.
