Athletic Bilbao struck a big blow this Saturday by clearly dominating Atlético de Madrid (3-0), during the 4th day of La Liga. After a long indecisive first period which ended with a goalless draw, the Basques completely turned the match around after returning from the locker room. From the 46th minute, Nico Williams broke the deadlock and got his team on the right track. Two minutes later, Robert Navarro doubled the lead on an assist from Iñaki Williams, plunging Atlético into a very uncomfortable situation.
Overwhelmed after the break, the Colchoneros never managed to react and gradually let Bilbao take control of operations. The Athletic men continued to push and were finally rewarded in injury time with a third goal from Oihan Sancet in the 90th minute. With this resounding victory, Bilbao confirms its excellent start to the season and inflicts a heavy defeat on Atlético, at the end of a second period totally controlled by the locals.
