UEFA has decided to take action. Mattéo Guendouzi now knows his sanction after the incidents that occurred during the return play-off for accession to the Champions League between Fenerbahçe and OL (2-1). The French international had notably upset the Lyon public and had since been the subject of an investigation by the European football body.
And the verdict fell this Friday evening. Mattéo Guendouzi was fined 50,000 euros and will be suspended for the next four matches for which he would have been eligible. The former Marseillais is sanctioned “for having insulted people present during the match, provoked the spectators and violated the fundamental rules of good conduct”specifies the UEFA press release, taken up by The Team. The suspension of two of these meetings is, however, accompanied by a probationary period of one year, from the date of this decision.
Mason Greenwood also sanctioned
Mattéo Guendouzi is not the only player affected by UEFA sanctions. Mason Greenwood was also punished after this meeting. The striker was fined 30,000 euros and will be suspended for one match “for having violated the fundamental rules of good conduct”. Here again, this suspension is accompanied by a probationary period of one year, taking effect from the date of the decision.
Finally, Antonio Ferreira, goalkeeper coach of Olympique Lyonnais who had tried to deal a blow to the former Phocaean, was heavily sanctioned. He is suspended for a total of five UEFA club competition matches in which he would normally have participated, for “serious assault and battery”. The suspension of two of these meetings is also accompanied by a probationary period of one year.
