Bayern Munich certainly thought they would experience a relatively peaceful preparation before the big return of the Bundesliga. This is not the case. Just a few days before the resumption of the German championship, new concern surrounds Jamal Musiala. Already the victim of sudden weakness last Saturday during the friendly match against RB Leipzig, the German international collapsed again this Tuesday, this time against Heidenheim. Coming into play in the 61st minute at the request of Vincent Kompany, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder only needed a few minutes to be overtaken by this new malaise. On the ground, quickly surrounded by his teammates who tried to protect him from view and cameras, Musiala was finally able to get up and walk off the pitch, accompanied by the Munich medical staff. A necessarily worrying scene, especially when it comes only three days after a first similar episode.
The repetition of these two events necessarily raises concerns within the Bavarian club. On Saturday, against RB Leipzig, Musiala had already suffered a sudden weakness in the final minutes of the match, just a few moments after coming into play. The player then fell on the pitch, immediately causing concern among those around him and the Munich staff. Since then, certain elements have reinforced the questions. On Monday, after having carried out an individual session, Musiala notably did not participate in the presentation of the team organized on the Bayern Munich campus. An absence which might seem trivial in the context of summer preparation, but which obviously takes on a whole new dimension after this new malaise. Seeing the same player collapse once again in the middle of a match, a few days apart, cannot leave Bayern indifferent, as the official season is fast approaching.
Eberl comes out of silence
Obviously, questions are starting to multiply around the state of health of the German jewel. Bayern Munich has not yet provided a precise explanation on the reasons for these two discomforts, leaving a certain uncertainty surrounding the situation. Questioned after the meeting, sporting director Max Eberl, however, confirmed that the club was perfectly aware of what was happening and that the main person concerned was due to speak soon. “Jamal will speak about it himself soon. We are aware of the situation and we are aware of it”explained the Bavarian leader, before specifying that Musiala was then in the locker room to change and take a shower. A speech from the player will therefore be particularly awaited in the coming hours, while Bayern will have to determine whether these two episodes are linked and especially whether they require in-depth medical examinations before authorizing his return to the field.
The concern is all the more significant as the schedule leaves almost no respite for Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga will resume in just a few days and Jamal Musiala obviously represents one of the most important players in Vincent Kompany’s project. After a season marked by injuries and a long absence, the young German hoped to gradually regain his rhythm and approach this new exercise with more continuity. Seeing it collapse twice in just three days suddenly dampens this perspective. Even if Musiala was able to leave the pitch under his own power and no alarming information has yet been communicated, Bayern obviously cannot take the slightest risk. Four days before the start of the Bundesliga, the Bavarian club is now awaiting clear answers on the state of its number 10. And above all, everyone hopes that these two discomforts do not hide anything more serious.
