In search of a new offensive spearhead, OGC Nice did not take the easy route by exploring the avenues leading to Bamba Dieng, Franck Magri or even Simon Banza. These files proving complex for various reasons, the Riviera club decided to concentrate its efforts on the most attractive and reassuring option in the eyes of Olivier Pantaloni: Elye Wahi. However, the operation promises to be fraught with pitfalls. Weighed down by restricted finances, the Gym currently has no room for budgetary maneuver on the market. Even considering the potential sales hoped for by the close of the transfer window (Boudaoui, Ali Cho, Mendy, Oppong, Moffi), the nest egg collected risks being insufficient to align with the 15 million euros claimed by Eintracht Frankfurt to release the former OM striker.
Faced with this impasse, the Nice management is currently trying to negotiate a loan with the German team. But here again, the discussions get stuck. According to our information, Eintracht does not intend to make any gifts to the Riviera club and is currently refusing to cover a large part of the player’s salary. This is a real thorn in the side of Roger Ricord, who is working behind the scenes to find a viable financial arrangement, especially since Elye Wahi is particularly excited about the idea of making his return to the Promenade des Anglais. This complex file is therefore likely to drag on in length. But just a few days before the resumption of Ligue 1, time is running out. Can OGC Nice really afford to wait? Starting the season by relying solely on Victor Orakpo or the young Zoumana Diallo at the forefront of the attack is a sporting prospect which risks not reassuring Nice supporters at all.
