This is the big news that everyone has been waiting for. FC Barcelona and Manchester City have agreed on one of the transfers of the summer. Rodri should join the Blaugranas very soon, after the latter sent an offer of €50 million, accepted by the English club according to information from the RAC1. There would only be a few documents left to refine before making the news official. Rodri is even expected on August 12 to resume training with his new team.
It is already the epilogue of a soap opera which will not have been that long between the two entities. For several days, the player had made Barça his priority for the rest of his career, after politely refusing the advances of Real Madrid. He even took the time to take a call from Hansi Flick to explain his game plan and divulge what he expected of him. It was still necessary to find a contractual agreement with the Culés. That didn’t take very long either.
Rodri will reunite with world champion teammates
Manchester City could only admit defeat. The English club, however, tried to keep the 2024 Ballon d’Or by formulating a proposal for an extension in his contract, which ends in 2027. By dint of vacillating, Rodri made his club understand that it was time to turn the page. His fantastic World Cup during which he was voted best player of the tournament finally convinced Barça to take action, while rumors sent the player to the Spanish capital.
Barça’s second offer was the right one. After a first refusal and estimated at €45 million, that of €50 million was enough to convince the Skyblues. The latter were hoping for between €60 and €65 million. No doubt a bonus story brought everyone together. Rodri will therefore reunite with many of his world champion teammates, starting with his midfield colleagues, Pedri and Dani Olmo, with whom he formed part of the skeleton of La Roja.
