Will Zinédine Zidane manage to take Ousmane Dembélé to the next level in the national team?

Despite his hat-trick scored against Norway in the third and final group match, Ousmane Dembélé did not really succeed in his World Cup. The number 7 of the Blues was far from the level he shows at club, at Paris Saint-Germain.

The question of removing him from the starting lineup arose at the start of the competition, but Didier Deschamps maintained his confidence in him until the end. Everything suggests that his successor Zinédine Zidane will do the same. At least initially.

“We discovered an excellent connection between Olise and Mbappé, but with Dembélé, it’s more problematic, points out Laurent Perrin, head of department for Sports at
Parisian. With the Blues, the Mbappé-Dembélé relationship never worked either. This is one of the files that Zidane will have to manage. »

Dembélé, Zidane must take him to the next level in selection

During this 2026 World Cup, Ousmane Dembélé demonstrated too much technical waste. With five goals scored and two assists delivered, he has however greatly improved his individual statistics, which were until now famished under the jersey of the Rooster.

As for Zinédine Zidane, his appointment as French coach could be made official by the French Football Federation as early as next week. At present, the 1998 Ballon d’Or has not yet signed his contract with her.
