Present in Gijón this Monday for the inauguration of a public space now named in his name, Luis Enrique received a warm tribute in his hometown. The green beach of El Rinconín, an area of more than 6,000 m², now bears the name of the PSG coach. Surrounded by his family and several local representatives during the ceremony, the Spanish technician did not hide his emotion when talking about his roots and his attachment to the Asturian city.

My ashes will rest here. It’s a special beach, and I like to go against the tide. I love this place. Long live Asturias, long live Gijón and long live Sporting. But Gijón is Gijón. On this plaque, I don’t see my name, I see those of my parents, who left everything to come to Gijón. They left their hometown to come here. They were, are and always will be my role models. Thanks to my wife Elena who supported me. We will have at least 30 years of life together. It’s really hard. The fundamental and simple values that my parents instilled in me, we pass them on to our children. It’s been 30 years since I started this life project with my wife, and we have built a wonderful family with three children: Pacho, Sira and Xana“, he declared, his eyes full of emotion.
