It was a big day in Barcelona, as Joan Laporta, re-elected president of FC Barcelona earlier this season, officially took office. The opportunity to speak in front of the press, and to drop a few more punchlines against Real Madrid. He notably responded to Florentino Pérez, who had publicly attacked Barça several times during the Madrid presidential campaign.
“In other places, they are very nervous, they give dismal press conferences, they have lost their bearings a little. They are having déjà vu (in reference to Mourinho’s return, Editor’s note). We have a more consistent team with Hansi Flick to lead all these players. Some have not digested that Barça has once again become a club respected on a sporting level and respected by the institutions”declared the Barcelona president. The message got through.
