While he is in the process of having an exceptional 2026 World Cup with the France team, Adrien Rabiot sees his future at club becoming one of the hot issues of the summer transfer window. A five-time starter with the Blues in the competition, the French midfielder once again impressed during the victory against Morocco, where he perfectly controlled the midfield alongside Manu Koné. Before facing Spain in the semi-final on Tuesday, with the objective of playing a third consecutive world final for France, Rabiot continues to get everyone in agreement. Author of an assist in this World Cup and already performing well with AC Milan this season with 6 goals and 5 assists, the Frenchman has established himself as a major element of the Milan project. But the future of his coach Massimiliano Allegri, now on the Naples bench, could well redistribute the cards.

Arriving at AC Milan last summer from Olympique de Marseille to find Allegri, Adrien Rabiot now finds himself at the center of a possible duel between the two Italian clubs. According to Gazzetta dello Sportan important discussion took place recently in Boston between the player and his mother Véronique Rabiot, also an agent of the French midfielder. Taking advantage of a half-day of rest granted to Didier Deschamps’ players, the Rabiot family met in a restaurant to discuss the different possibilities for the future. A strategic meeting, even if the player would have indicated that he would not make any decision before the end of his journey at the World Cup. For the moment, there is no indication of a desire to break with Milan, while his contract runs until 2028.

The Rabiot clan hesitates

But the situation remains particularly closely monitored in Italy, particularly in Naples. Massimiliano Allegri, who knows Rabiot perfectly having managed him at Juventus then at Milan, would like to find his former player and strengthen his midfield. The context could thus work in favor of Napoli, second in Serie A and qualified for the next Champions League, unlike the Rossoneri who missed this objective after a disappointing season. However, on the Milan side, the message is clear: no one wants to part ways with one of their most regular players for the 2025-2026 season. The owner of RedBird considers Rabiot an essential element of the future Milan project, as does Ruben Amorim, who greatly appreciates his profile. The Portuguese technician would have already reserved a specific role for him in his 3-4-2-1 system, more as a defensive midfielder capable of covering and imposing his physical impact, again according to the Italian media.

For the moment, AC Milan is therefore completely closing the door to a departure and does not intend to facilitate Naples’ plans. Gerry Cardinale keeps the last word on important matters and does not wish to be put under pressure, even if an exceptional offer could possibly change the situation. At the same time, Milan must manage other issues in the middle with the possible departures of Samuele Ricci and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, while Luka Modric has not yet decided his future. Between Rabiot’s proximity to several Milanese executives such as Mike Maignan, Christopher Nkunku and Youssouf Fofana, and the appeal of the Neapolitan project carried by Allegri, the series is far from over. But for now, the Frenchman remains focused on his immense challenge with the Blues before looking at his future.
