The former owner of Inter Milan, Steven Zhang, has decided to take Oaktree to court in a dispute which could reach up to 450 million euros according to the Italian press. At the heart of this battle: the loan granted by the American fund in 2021, which expired in April 2024, which Zhang was unable to repay. Oaktree then recovered the club’s shares, used as collateral, thus becoming the new owner of the Nerazzurri.
From now on, the main issue concerns the real valuation of Inter at the time of the recovery. Zhang believes that the value of the club far exceeded the amount of the debt, and is demanding possible compensation for the difference. A panel of experts will have to determine the net value of the assets at the time of the takeover, a decision which could have significant financial consequences for Oaktree if the justice system rules in favor of the former interior president.
