The war continues between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. More involved than ever in the Negreira affair, the Merengue club has just published an official press release in which it asks UEFA to reopen its investigation into the affair and to take exemplary sanctions against the Catalan club.
“Real Madrid CF informs that in relation to the so-called ‘Cas Negreira’, it has filed with UEFA a document addressed to its disciplinary bodies. In this document, the club brought to the attention of UEFA the existence of relevant evidence that conclusively reinforces the indications already known from the beginning on the existence of payments prolonged over time, opaque and devoid of any verifiable justification, made by FC Barcelona to the one who was vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, José María Enríquez Negreira, through different corporate structures. Real Madrid underlines that these facts constitute, from the point of view of sports disciplinary law, a systemic risk of maximum seriousness for the integrity of competitions, highlighting the existence of a structure of undue influence on the refereeing body, incompatible with the essential principles of competitive equality, neutrality, impartiality and unpredictability of the sporting result. In this context, Real Madrid requested the immediate resumption of the disciplinary procedure initiated at the time by UEFA, considering unacceptable that this situation has continued over time, because its persistence seriously compromises the credibility of football, its institutions and its leaders, and requires a firm, exemplary and immediate response in the sporting field, regardless of the future of the current legal proceedings. This is why our club asks UEFA that, in the exercise of its own, autonomous and independent competence, it adopts the necessary disciplinary and remedial measures in order to guarantee the integrity, transparency and proper functioning of the competitions, without this implying, in any case, replacing the function of the judicial bodies of the State or anticipating a criminal classification of the facts. In this regard, Real Madrid, a party to the ongoing criminal proceedings as a civil party, will exercise, as it has done from the beginning, the actions that correspond to each procedural stage. Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to defending the essential values of sport and will continue to promote all necessary actions to ensure that facts of this nature do not go unpunished.we can read.
