This Sunday was eagerly awaited by Real Madrid supporters. The socios were called to the polls to elect their new president, with a choice between the re-election of Florentino Pérez and his opponent Enrique Riquelme, bearer of an ambitious project. While the first polls gave the outgoing president a clear favorite, Enrique Riquelme delayed the count after contesting more than 1,000 votes. The candidate was forced to specify to the Spanish press that his team was carefully monitoring the progress of the operations, fearing possible irregularities.

“The counting took longer than expected. Some mail-in ballots have been challenged and we will speak publicly in about an hour once the results are known. There is still much to say, as many polling stations are still open. I would like to apologize to the media. This is not our doing, it concerns the vote counting process”indicated Enrique Riquelme. The final results are now expected overnight from Sunday to Monday.
