After Paris Saint-Germain’s second consecutive victory in the Champions League, a radical change is confirmed for the capital club.

Paris Saint-Germain has undoubtedly made football history by winning its second consecutive Champions League. But did he enter the hearts of the French at the same time?

After his team’s triumph, Nasser Al-Khelaifi had this sentence which caused a lot of discussion: “PSG is the club of all of France, not just of Paris”. These comments made the defenders of football culture jump, who believe that it is impossible that a fervent supporter of OM or OL could get behind PSG in the Champions League.

However, last Saturday, the victory of Luis Enrique’s men was celebrated in most major cities in France. And the CSA poll relayed this Friday by Ouest-France shows that PSG benefited from strong support throughout the country.

PSG conquered France

So, here is what the Parisians’ victory against Arsenal gave those surveyed: satisfaction (65%), joy (61%) and even pride (55%). Few people felt disappointed (13%) and sad (13%). More significantly, the satisfaction rate even climbs to 81% for “football fans”.

Concretely, more than three-quarters of those questioned hoped for a victory for PSG in this final (77%). Conversely, only 9% of respondents supported Arsenal, compared to 14% of neutral spectators.

PSG has therefore clearly generated real support. And this is very recent. “What surprised us was the spectacular change in image that took place at PSG and the speed with which the values put in place by the new coach are now stuck to the club. When PSG wins, it’s France that wins, confides Yves Del Frate, the boss of the CSA institute, always with
West France. And, what’s more, the values that the club conveys are extremely positive: they also restore the nobility of the image of football. »
