Mourinho, Real Madrid and Benfica reach an agreement

After Florentino Pérez’s announcement last night that José Mourinho would be the new coach of Real Madrid if he is re-elected on Sunday, Benfica has confirmed. In a press release published this Thursday afternoon, the Portuguese club explains that it will receive €15 million, the amount of the technician’s departure clause, as stipulated in his contract.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica reports that the candidacy of President Florentino Pérez in the elections of Real Madrid CF has expressed its firm intention to hire coach José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix if he wins the elections for the presidency of said club, scheduled for June 7, 2026. In this scenario, the contract will be signed for an amount of €15,000,000, corresponding to the termination clause of the sports employment contract in force“.
