Negotiations around the extension of Vinicius Jr at Real Madrid remain suspended on one major element: his performance during the 2026 World Cup. According to A.S.discussions between the Madrid club and the Brazilian player’s entourage, interrupted for several months, have still not resumed in a concrete manner, although an agreement seemed close last summer. The electoral context within the club and the current priorities of management postpone any progress before the international deadline.

In this context, the World Cup appears to be a real turning point for the rest of the issue. A successful competition would allow Vinicius to significantly strengthen his position in the negotiations, while his contract runs until 2027 and he is already attracting the attention of several major European clubs. Conversely, a more complicated tournament could give back the advantage to Real Madrid in the discussion, even if the stated objective of both parties remains an extension. The player, who currently receives around 15 million euros net per season, wishes in particular to be valued at the level of the highest salaries in the Madrid locker room, in the same way as Kylian Mbappé.
