It’s almost the end for Didier Deschamps. In office since 2012, the native of Bayonne is preparing to compete in his last major competition with the French team, before bowing out.
Before this 2026 World Cup, where the Blues will try to win a third star, the French coach received a very nice tribute signed by Emmanuel Macron, who is full of praise for him. “I have always been struck by this strength of character that we sense in him as soon as we meet his gaze”confides the President of the Republic in a text addressed to West France.
Macron praises Deschamps, with well-chosen words
Emmanuel Macron admits to having excellent memories of the 2018 World Cup, one of the first great (positive) moments of his mandate. “I haven’t forgotten anything about 2018. The thrills of Argentina, ‘second post Pavard’, N’Golo Kanté and Kylian Mbappé, the final in Moscow, a sparkling summer which lifted us with happiness. Didier Deschamps finally brought the cup home.
