It was in the air, it’s now official. At the end of his contract with Liverpool, Ibrahima Konaté made the decision to leave the Reds this Sunday. The announcement was officially made in a press release published on the Mersey club’s social networks. For his part, the French defender, who will participate in the World Cup with the Blues, delivered a touching message on his departure this Sunday:

Dear Liverpool. Five years ago I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Representing this club has been an honor. We have shared incredible times together…with ups and downs, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than the loss of our brother Diogo. Losing my father this year was one of the most difficult times of my life, but even through adversity my commitment to this club never changed. In the most difficult times, I gave everything for this badge. To my teammates, coaches, staff members and everyone who works behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every day. And to the supporters… thank you for your love, energy and incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted. I am deeply saddened that I did not have the opportunity to say goodbye to you all during the last game. At that moment, I didn’t know that it would be my last time wearing this jersey in front of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will take Liverpool with me wherever I go. It’s not an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter. See you soon, Inshallah. YNWA.»
