PSG has struck again. The capital club won its second consecutive Champions League this Saturday, May 30, by dominating Arsenal in the final (1-1, 4-3 on penalties). At the final whistle, Luis Enrique did not hide his emotion.
“I am in a dream, I am very happy”confided the Spanish coach at a press conference, relayed by Le Parisien. The Parisian technician then wanted to pay tribute to Warren Zaire-Emery, replacing at kick-off and entering extra time in place of Fabian Ruiz. “With Warren, I was very unfair. He deserved to play in this final. He showed his personality and he accepted my decision. I wanted to emphasize that”explained Luis Enrique.
The former Spain coach also welcomed his team’s performance against the Gunners. “We achieved a very high level final against a very high level opponent. We didn’t find the spaces and we improved in the second half. But Arsenal defend perfectly in a low block. In the end, it’s incredible and we are very proud”he analyzed.
“We don’t need a lot of players”
Asked about the possibility of seeing PSG achieve a historic treble in the Champions League, like Zinédine Zidane’s Real Madrid between 2016 and 2018, Luis Enrique preferred to procrastinate.
“We have objectives to prepare. It’s vacation time. There, there is the World Cup, a very high level competition. For us as staff, we want to enjoy this summer. It’s the back to back of the back to back said Luis Campos. Our high objectives are worthy of the supporters, the club and the City”he assured.
Concerning the summer transfer window, the Parisian coach suggested that PSG would not shake up its squad.
“It’s another chapter. We will follow our course of action. We don’t need a lot of players because it’s very hard to join PSG. We will work on the future but there is no urgency. We will need new players to have other options but we already have a very good squad. We’re going to go piano piano »concluded Luis Enrique.
