The former Blues legend does not mince his words. Guest of RTL this Friday morning, Michel Platini raised the case of Kylian Mbappé, author of remarks which caused discussion in particular because of his political positions. Aware of the importance of words spoken in the media when a footballer is followed by millions of people, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner began by defending the 2018 world champion, before qualifying his words.
“We are very tough on Kylian Mbappé, but we are tougher on his positions off the pitch than on the pitch. He is right to take a stand when he is not with the armband or with the jersey of the France team. But with the armband, you play for all French people. So it’s difficult to take a position” Platini said on the radio. Then, he said that “footballers were not necessarily idiots”, indicating that some of them were intelligent during their media outings.
