Grégory Lorenzi, the new sporting director of OM, is preparing to carry out a vast project.

This Thursday, Olympique de Marseille formalized the arrival of Grégory Lorenzi as sports director. The 42-year-old is aware of the colossal work that awaits him.

“OM is a historic club, very special, very popular, very exciting. It’s up to us to find the best balance between the sporting project and our economic reality. All clubs want to reduce costs. But when we are OM, we also have the ambition to win matches, to make a city proud, to be competitive. The objective is to find serenity and stability. I have to build a new team to recreate a synergy, a group, a state of mind”he confided to
The Team.

Grégory Lorenzi addresses the transfer window: “We will have to be a little more inventive in recruitment. I favor the collective. We will have to succeed in finding players capable of creating a connection, an identity. Players who will fight on the pitch, and with whom the supporters will be able to identify, also including the training center, with some young people who are emerging to develop them and possibly have returns on investment in the longer term.

Lorenzi unveils his roadmap

Medhi Benatia’s successor is not afraid of pressure. “If we are not able to know that it can stop when the results are not there, we do not come to OM or we do not go to a club that has ambitionhe assures. Otherwise, I would have stayed in a club with fewer resources, fewer constraints, less pressure, and I would have had my peace of mind. If I was called upon, it was to try to do what I do, without changing my nature. But it’s also up to me to adapt to a context that is completely different. I’m not going to go from Brest to Marseille. »

Grégory Lorenzi ended his career in 2016 to immediately become sports coordinator, then sports director of Stade Brestois. In around ten years, he became the main architect of the Breton success story, taking the club from Ligue 2 to historic qualification in the Champions League.
