History repeats itself over and over again. Neymar still suffers from a physical problem. Initially hampered by edema, felt last week during training with his club Santos, he missed the Seleçao’s first collective training session.
“The MRI revealed a level 2 injury, not just edema”said the CBF doctor. A more serious diagnosis than that given at the base by Rodrigo Zogaib, the medical manager of Santos.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player will therefore not participate in either of his national team’s two preparation matches for the World Cup. In addition to missing the matches against Panama (March 31) and Egypt (June 7), Neymar risks also missing Brazil’s entry into the competition, on June 14, against Morocco.
Neymar, cascading injuries
Carlo Ancelotti had called on the native of Mogi das Cruzes somewhat to everyone’s surprise, probably giving in to popular pressure and that of the CBF. The latter has not worn the colors of the Seleçao since October 17, 2023, during a qualifying match for the World Cup against Uruguay. That day, he suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
During his career, Neymar was not spared from serious injuries. Fractured vertebrae during the 2014 World Cup, ruptured ankle ligament in February 2018, hamstrings, adductors… If he was sometimes unlucky, his somewhat reprehensible lifestyle was not always unrelated to his many physical problems.
