Laurent Blanc, the big return to Ligue 1?

Free from any contract after being champion of Saudi Arabia last year, Laurent Blanc, 60, is being considered by a Ligue 1 club qualified for the European Cup.

Successor to Pablo Longoria as president of OM, as Frank McCourt decided to put the Marseille club back on track financially, Stéphane Richard will play the Franco-French card. Grégory Lorenzi will arrive in a few days as sports director (even if OGC Nice remains, despite a signed pre-contract) and the former leader of Brest will most certainly entrust the reins of the club to a French coach.

Former OM player (1997-1999), Laurent Blanc has the profile sought by the new Olympian decision-makers but does not seem to be in their little papers. Christophe Galtier, a former player of the club and a native of the Marseille city, as well as Bruno Genesio, who left Losc at the end of his contract, would be at the top of the list. “Lolo” Blanc is rightly cited by The Team
among the technicians who would be in the sights of Lille president Olivier Létang. The project is very interesting since the Mastiffs came 3rd in Ligue 1 and are therefore directly qualified for the Champions League.

Laurent Blanc as a fallback solution

Former leader of PSG, Olivier LĂ©tang has already thought about Thiago Motta but there would be no contact for the moment. Losc management would rather be working on the arrival of Davide Ancelotti, Carlo’s son and his father’s deputy at the head of the Brazil team, a few days before the 2026 World Cup. Laurent Blanc is also cited as close to Olivier LĂ©tang, while he is free after his ouster from Al-Ittihad last September, a few months after a Saudi Arabian championship title. The 98 world champion could therefore be a plan B if the other tracks fall through.

According to The TeamGenesio’s assistant coach Dimitri Farbos has internal supporters, while a Belgian coach is also in the equation. This is not Will Still, who has already signed for AJ Auxerre to succeed Christophe PĂ©lissier. Walid Regragui, the former Morocco coach, could also be one of the coaches considered by the northern team. To be continued…
